Scout was born into the life of a mountain dog. He has been accompanying Paula since puppyhood.

Traveling in the backcountry with a dog brings an advantage to a group. Scout's highly evolved sense of smell alerts his human companions to the presence of animals we don't yet see. Also, he always knows the way home.
